Well, hubby's parents came home from their 5 week trip on the exact day Kiwi (we're nicknaming the baby depending on his/her size at the time) turned 12 weeks old. Perfectly enough, we could make the announcement!
So, dinner at a Greek restaurant that night began with hubby's parents telling us about their trip and waiting for Eugene (hubby's brother) to arrive. Once everyone was at the table, each guy received an envelope containing baby's first picture - a snap shot of our first ultrasound. Everyone opened the envelope at the same time and then proceeded in trying to figure out what it was they were looking at. Then it dawned on everyone... "Is this a... BABY?!" Moms were hugging each other, Dads were amazed and Papa (hubby's grandfather) just sat there, with a huge smile on his face. Then, you look at the other end of the table where our siblings were and you just hear them laughing and thinking up ways of how to screw up their new nephew/niece. Oh, the horror!
A few minutes later, everyone had calmed down and began eating their dinners. I looked across the table at Dad just as he was tucking his copy of the picture away in the inside pocket of his jacket. We looked at each other and I told him, "Dad, you're going to be a Lolo." (Lolo = grandfather) He just sat there and grinned.
Stories aside, dinner was great. I was able to eat most of my chicken souvlaki - chicken and all! I just had to avoid the feta cheese that was put on top of my salad since I forgot to ask for no cheese.
Hubby needed a ride to Downtown afterwards so I bribed Eugene and Eileen (hubby's sister) with ice cream and they came with me. Mmm! Blueberry ice cream with blueberries in a waffle bowl that was dipped in white chocolate and Oreo cookie bits. Hmm... I can do with another one of those about now.
The best part of the night: I was dropping Eugene and Eileen off at home before going home myself. We said our goodbyes and before they closed their doors, each one says, "Bye Baby!". It was so totally unexpected... and so shocking. Loved it :)
